Owow At-Home Keratin Hair Treatment Kit Review 2021

Over the past year, many of us have had to find new ways to turn our homes into makeshift beauty salons (among other things), whether it’s taming unruly eyebrows or keeping our hair under control by grabbing the scissors – some attempts inevitably being more successful than others.

Although it was a relief to many when hairdressers were finally allowed to open in England on April 12, if you’re as disorganized as I am when it comes to your hair care, you haven’t been lucky enough to get a reservation. As such, it had been an entire year before I managed to get a haircut, and it’s safe to say that my hair needed some serious TLC. Not to mention that my hair is naturally frizzy, very long and difficult to tame.

While waiting for my long-awaited date, I discovered Wow, a relatively new haircare brand that promises to instantly revive dull locks; tame frizz and deliver silky smooth hair that lasts up to three months.

Claiming to deliver the same miracle results as a salon-worthy keratin treatment – a chemical process often performed by hairstylists that smoothes and adds shine to frizzy hair – but for a fraction of the price and without the hassle (i is vegan, cruelty-free, and sulfate-free), I was definitely skeptical.

The brainchild of Georgina Grudinschi, who saw the need for long-term solutions to combat frizzy hair, Owow has amassed a cult following and has demonstrable results, with users sharing their before and after photos on Instagram. The more I scrolled, the more intrigued I became.

Can a simple at-home hair treatment really be the answer I’ve been looking for to turn my frizzy Hagrid hair into smooth, sleek locks? I tried the Owow kit (£43.96, Owowbeauty.com) to discover.

At first impressions I liked the Owow packaging, it arrived in a recyclable cardboard box and all the products (sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, and the smoothing care spray) can be recycled with your usual household waste.

The products are cruelty-free and vegan and, unlike in-salon keratin treatments, do not contain formaldehyde. Instead, the formulas are loaded with natural ingredients, including cashews, guarana, and balsamic vinegar — all of which are high in vitamins and antioxidants and good for making your hair shine.

On the important bit, the app. The instructions were easy to follow, with a leaflet detailing the steps to say “bye bye to frizzy hair”. The whole process took about two hours, which may put some people off, but we were determined to get it right.

First it was to saturate the hair with the smoothing treatment, which I expected to have a chemical scent, so I was pleasantly surprised by its pleasant smell. Due to the length and thickness of my hair, I used the entire 100ml bottle in one sitting, which might not be the case for those with shorter or thinner hair.

After application, I had to leave the treatment on for an hour (40 minutes for fine hair), allowing it to work its magic before rinsing it out thoroughly to make sure there was no residual product left. . After that, it was time to dry and straighten my locks. The latter took a considerable amount of time as you have to walk through each 2cm section six times to ensure that the hair is perfectly straight.

But once that was done, I just had to admire the end result: soft, shiny hair that now feels completely transformed. Normally when I dry my hair it feels dry, frizzy and somewhat unmanageable, but after using the Owow at-home straightening treatment it feels silky smooth – and that’s what I’m here for. I will now have to wash my hair with the brand’s products sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and blow dry after each wash to reactivate the effect, but that’s not really an issue for me – and there’s a 100ml shampoo and conditioner included in the kit.

The Verdict: Owow Home Smoothing Treatment Kit

Having never done a keratin style treatment at home before, I was skeptical about how the Owow home smoothing kit could transform my locks from their dry and frizzy state into something smooth and silky. But that’s exactly what it does. I’m impressed with how it has made my hair more manageable and it means I don’t have to straighten it after every blow dry, with just a few flyaways to tame. Although the £45 price tag seems high for a treatment you have to do yourself at home, if you regularly go to the salon for something similar it will save you money in the long run, and you definitely should give the Owow home smoothing kit To try.

Overall, the process took a long time – well over two hours – but, I guess that’s a small price to pay for a few months of smooth locks. Goodbye Hagrid’s hair!
