7 home remedies to treat dry and frizzy hair during confinement

We all know that the nationwide lockdown in India has been extended till May 3 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This means that the lounge facilities will also remain closed, in line with lockdown guidelines. So what about those with frizzy, dry hair during this time? Dermatologist and Hair Transplant Surgeon Dr BL Jangid today shared home remedies that can be tried for smoother and stronger hair amid the COVID-19 driven lockdown.

1. Apply coconut oil
The best part of using coconut oil for your hair is that its rich ingredient in lauric acid. Once applied to hair, it is easily absorbed, adding moisture to hair while reducing protein loss. A small amount of coconut oil is suggested as a pre-wash or post-wash treatment. This increases humidity and reduces fizz.

2. Apply the avocado mask
Widely considered a super fruit, the avocado is packed with many nourishing ingredients that help strengthen your hair. The ingredients include Vitamins A and E which are also moisture rich, hydrating and reducing fizziness in your hair.

3. Almond oil is a good option
Almond oil acts as a natural hair conditioner and emollient. While on the other hand, an egg is additionally a great option that can reduce and repair damaged hair due to its high protein content. Mix one egg in half a cup of almond oil, apply it on your hair and wash it accordingly.

4. You can also use apple cider vinegar
Filled with essential nutrients, apple cider vinegar can help restore your hair to health. There are endless benefits to using apple cider vinegar on your hair, including:
• Shiny hair
• Stimulates the scalp
• Reduces dandruff
• Unclogs hair follicles
• Reduces residues
• Excessive shedding of hair loss

5. Argan oil can be a healthy option
Argan oil is a rich moisturizing agent that contains oleic and linoleic acid. It additionally contains antioxidants like vitamin E which is healthy for human hair. Argan oil is also believed to have other protective benefits for hair against heat, similar to styling products sold on the market. However, there is no scientific evidence to support these claims.

6. Try eggs
Eggs are rich in saturated fat, biotin and vitamins. There isn’t a lot of evidence linking eggs to reduced frizziness. But some people believe that an egg mask can make hair look healthier, shinier, and frizz-free.

7. Yogurt: A good option
The proteins found in yogurt help strengthen the hair shaft, which prevents split ends and hair damage. The lactic acid in yogurt moisturizes the hair and also removes dead skin cells. Yogurt has medical and cosmetic effects on your hair follicle, scalp and roots, ensuring healthy and shiny hair.
