Humidity is the greatest enemy of a beautiful hairstyle. If you’ve ever walked out of the salon and within minutes watched your sleek blow-dry turn into frizzy hair for days on end, you’ll be totally through this.
Sometimes it can seem like an impossible battle, but there are products and treatments that can fight frizz, and if you use them correctly, you’ll find your bad hair days are dramatically reduced in the heat of summer.
Luckily, hairstylists know what’s going on. We asked ELEVEN Australia Co-Creative Director Joey Scandizzo for his top tips for banishing frizz and eliminating flyaways.
COARSE, CURLY OR FRIZZY GRAY HAIR
“Thick hair that’s curly or gray is usually the frizziest,” says Scandizzo. This is because finer textured hair will often become fluffy instead of frizzy, with more of that frizz concentrated at the ends. But do not despair! With a little attention, Scandizzo says you can easily tame your mane.
“You have to pack the hair with protein and moisture,” he explains, adding that if there’s no protein in the hair, there’s nothing to retain the moisture. His best advice? Treatments, treatments, treatments.
“The treatments are the best way to load hair with wheat proteins and silk aminos that penetrate all the cracks in the hair shaft and help lock in moisture while taming frizz.”

THICK AND FRUITY HAIR
Thick, frizzy hair needs a styling product, but probably not as much as you think. If you’ve been frustrated with frizzy hair that then feels greasy or weighed down by anti-frizz products, Scandizzo has the solution.
“Rather than trying to tame hair by weighing it down with styling products, start by prepping it in the shower with an anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner,” he explains, suggesting the Smooth Me Now line from ‘ELEVEN Australia, which contains silk amino acids to help keep hair more manageable. “Once hair is properly prepped, only a small amount of product is needed to control frizz and flyaways.”
It should also be noted that you should not wash your hair too often. “Hair fresh feeling is great but styling is difficult. Just a side note, it’s always best to style hair on day 2 or 3 when the natural oils are back in the hair.
